The families behind Parisi’s produce!
The Dugdell Family, Kumbia Stone Fruit Grower
There’s nothing we love more than working with people who are as passionate about fresh produce as we are, and no one could accuse Dennis & Lorraine Dugdell of not caring about what they grow. Their family love growing stone fruit and treat each crop somewhat like a baby! They nurture, love and grow them to a ripe age and then release them into our equally loving hands.
But they’re similarities with us don’t just stop there! When harvest is in full swing of the season, the Dugdell family employs up to 70 people, depending on the quantity of fruit. The employees are one of the reasons they love growing stone fruit, it’s like one big family on the farm, much like at Parisi’s.
As it turns out, The Dugdell’s are living in the future. They have now automated the way they defuzz peaches! At first, they had to laboriously pack and hand wash fruit themselves, but now machines defuzz the peaches and weigh each and every one automatically!
That doesn’t mean they’re afraid of getting their hands dirty. In 2015 the family decided to buy another orchard in the area which was one of the first farms in the region. The challenge lay in the fact that the farm was very run-down, but their determination to keep the property in local hands prevailed, and we are so grateful that it did!
As a family, they find farming incredibly satisfying, and they hope to bring consistent delicious stone fruit to the public. We share this sentiment, and we love being able to pass their produce on for others to fall in love with.
