Australian Grown Packham Pears

As a family, we love Australia and the fresh produce that the climate allows to grow here. The Packham pear combines these two great loves, as it originates from our home state of New South Wales. It all started in the small village of Molong, when two trees were grafted together in 1896 to create a new variety of pear that is still popular to this day. It is said Mr Packham developed the fruit because he wanted a late ripening variety. Now, in 2019 it has become a symbol of Molong, and has also become very popular overseas. At the time of Mr Packham’s death there were 20,000 saplings of his variety growing locally.

Packham Pears are a wonderful celebration of the orcharding industries of yesteryear, and a great ingredient to incorporate into a dish in this cold weather! Caramelise in a pan with brown sugar for a sweet end to a winter meal.
