Broad Beans locally grown NSW

What may seem like lowly beans to you, actually hold much larger significance in other parts of the world. In Venice, during All Souls Day in which they celebrate loved ones who have passed away, they prepare sweet almond fava or ‘fave dei morti.’

Legend has it that fava (broad) beans, which the biscuits are intended to represent, were a direct line of communication between the dead and living worlds. Infact, reference to broad beans as part of the funeral ceremony dates back to the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Peruvians. Not bad for a little bean!
